Program Director of High School Ministries
Job Description (full-time, exempt, benefits)
The Program Director of High School Ministries partners with the Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries in fulfilling the church’s mission and ministry with high school students. A commitment to collegial, team-oriented leadership of this ministry with students, parents, advisors and staff is a priority. This person will direct and administer an effective and comprehensive high school program, intentionally pursuing a relational ministry that draws students closer to Christ, calls them to deeper discipleship and builds closer connections to this community of faith.
This is a full-time position with a flexible work schedule. It is assumed that Sunday is a full workday.
Job Description:
In our efforts to be faithful to the church’s vision, the high school program is conceived of having the following strands of ministry: witnessing, worshiping, equipping, and caring. In those four areas the program director will:
Witnessing:
- Engage in personal evangelism—searching for opportunities to build relationships with students new to us for the purpose of holy friendship.
- Assist advisors and students in their own evangelism efforts through training and support.
- Create, coordinate, and lead events and programs clearly intended to reach out to non-believers.
- Assist in developing, a more sustained approach to local and international mission opportunities.
- Design, direct, and lead various mission and service opportunities
Worshipping:
- Pursue a life of personal worship and relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Provide ongoing support and regular opportunities for students to engage in personal worship, including a deeper commitment to reading scripture and prayer.
- Encourage and train students and volunteers to take on a greater role in the worshiping ministry of the youth ministry and congregational worship.
- Create, coordinate, and lead regular opportunities for gathered worship as a high school community.
- Partner with the AP in developing and implementing a worship and teaching calendar for the high school ministry.
Equipping:
- Build and maintain healthy relationships with students and leaders for the purpose of encouraging maturing Christian discipleship.
- Team with AP to recruit, train and motivate adult volunteers for leadership in the high school ministry.
- Disciple advisors in their own ability to minister to students.
- Partner in developing and implement a teaching and discipling ministry focused on instilling a love for Christ along with a broad understanding and love of scripture.
- Create, coordinate, and lead programs, events and missions and retreats clearly intended to encourage maturing faith, familiarity with scripture, and commitment to service.
Caring:
- Partner with AP in creating and implement a clear plan for leaders involving contact work, small groups, and spiritual care.
- Ensure that every student on our roster has contact with our ministry at least twice a month.
- Partner with the AP in responding to emergency pastoral concerns for the advisors and families connected to the high school ministry. This includes keeping the AP informed of pastoral concerns, issues, and steps taken in the high school ministry.
- Have regular communication with parents regarding the schedule, details, and purpose of our ministry.
- Pursue avenues that fully integrate the youth of this church into the life of the church.
- Create, coordinate, and lead programs, events, missions and retreats clearly intended to deepen friendships and broaden our relational connections.
Administration:
- Partner with AP in setting the annual youth ministry budget. Monitor the budget throughout the year and regularly report to AP.
- Develop and coordinate regular and sustained informational communication with advisors, students, and families.
- Work with AA to keep roster updated and current.
- Partner with the youth ministry program staff to manage flow and work load of AA.
Supervision
The Program Director of High School Ministries reports to the Associate Pastor for Youth Ministries.
Administrative Assistance
The Program Director of High School Ministries will share some administrative support with the Associate Pastor for Youth Ministries.
Desired Skill Set:
- Personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- 2+ years experience in a youth ministry setting.
- Demonstrated ability to be both a mature and engaging presence in the lives of students and families.
- Demonstrated ability motivating and working graciously with advisors & volunteers.
- Teaching experience and strong ‘up-front’ presence in youth ministry settings.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate and implement programs.
- Working knowledge of software programs including: Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher.
- Ability to learn new programs and technologies as needed.
